Is your WAN really secure?
|
| I know a lot of people who think that their Internet is secure just because they figured out how to turn on the security settings. Now that you have done so, I am safe right? No, did you pick the better of the 2? I have a friend who was having a problem with a connection, their ISP made the take the better security off and put the risky one on. So, did you trust your ISP? | ![]() |

So which is better, WEP or WPA? WPA is so much more secure. There are numerous programs out there that will crack WEP in under a minute. Now, WPA is not un-crackable, but it will take whole a lot more to get in. If you are using WPA and have it on TKIP (temporal key integrity protocol), you may want to move to WPA-PSK or even better WPA2. After 5 plus years a hack was just found to get into WPA-TKIP. However, it is still not in under a minute and takes a hacker to do so. WEP is much easier and was hacked years ago. Stay in front, of the issues, it's just like viruses, as soon as someone makes one go away or detectable, a new hacker is working on the next. Nothing is 100%, but hopefully you choose the best. WEP was created in 1999 (10 years old) WPA cam 4 or 5 years later than then the more recent WPA2. There is one way to make it totally secure, HARD-WIRE, however you are still vulnerable going online. |
Happy surfing!
